New Year’s Appetizer – 2019 Cheesy Garlic Twists

Happy 2019!

New Year’s Eve is tomorrow and I wanted to do something a little special for my toddler, even though I know she doesn’t really understand what a year is. I decided to throw together a little snack that is both tasty and cute. Cheesy Garlic Twists in the shape of the year 2019.

The twisted puff pastry is formed into the year 2019.

These guys are light, flaky and kid approved! My 2 year old daughter inhaled a whole one herself. They could be an appetizer at a New Year’s party, included as part of a cheese platter, or a side at dinner.

Here’s what you need:

1 package of frozen puff pastry (I used half)

2 tbsp butter, melted

1 tsp oregano

1/4 tsp salt (omit if butter is salted)

1 clove garlic, minced

Parmesan cheese, grated

Melt your butter in a small dish. Stir in oregano, salt, and minced garlic. Set aside.

Garlic butter goodness.

On a lightly floured surface, roll out thawed puff pastry into a large rectangle. Brush the melted butter mixer on top, and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. I lightly pressed the cheese so that it would stick to the dough.

From half a package of dough, I cut 16 strips.

Next, cut the dough into 16 equal parts and twist each strip. If you are using a full package of puff pastry, you can cut double. Transfer each twist to a parchment lined baking sheet and shape into the numbers 2019. You can also skip this step and just bake the twists by themselves if you like.

Bake at 425 degrees Fahrenheit for 10-12 minutes, or until puffed up and golden.

Allow to cool before serving. Be careful, they may be delicate depending on the thickness of each twist. Enjoy!
